Backpacking to the Best Beach Party on planet Earth : Full Moon Party Thailand !

"Backpacking Thailand" sounds  interesting? We all wish to do it each year for the rest of my life. Started with the idea of giving a bachelor trip to my childhood buddy this off-beat tour took us to levels of new experiences and adventures. Thailand has to offer amazing beaches, awesome food and mind-blowing parties. In fact, Full Moon Party is the best party on planet Earth...!

Full moon party goes on till morning !

Somewhere on the little island of Koh-Phangnan.
The Majestic Island !

The place which hosts the full moon party lies way down in southern Thailand. Its a tropical island called Koh-Phangnan.

The place is far away from the famous(rather infamous) better known cities like Bangkok and Pattaya.

It takes time, effort and money to reach there but trust me once you reach this paradise, it seems more than worth all of it.

How To Reach Koh-Phangnan?

Our trip began from New Delhi from where we took an overnight flight and we reached Bangkok around 5 A.M in the morning.

For Indian passport holders, there is VOA(Visa On Arrival) facility in Thailand.
Price of VOA : 1000THB(Around 2000 Indian Rupees i.e. just one note).

Locating Paradise
Once you are in Bangkok, there is a really cheap option which also takes time : TRAIN.
Let me suggest not to take it as time is a resource you don`t want to lose.
I highly recommend :
AirAsia Island Transfer.

It includes your flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani/Nakhon Si Thammarat (sorry about the names).

Apart from that it includes your transfers to ferry port (via volvo bus) and also your ferry upto  Thong Sala Pier. This is where you reach the beautiful island. Now just hop-off the ferry and take a tuk-tuk to your resort or hostel.

Flights, cheap flights:

The biggest budget-saver for any trip is to find the cheapest flights. This is where you can save most of the money if you act smartly.
Top budget operators that fly to Thailand are AirAsia, Scoot and TigerAir. I also looked up for India based airlines like Indigo and spicejet, which were not as cheap.

Delhi-Bangkok-Delhi :

Price of flights from New Delhi to Bangkok are usually start at INR 14,000 return. Try looking at web-sites like SkyScanner and Kayak for better deals. We booked not much in advance so got one ticket for 15,000 INR. Look more for the above mentioned airlines for better air fares.

The Airasia island transfer:

Our bird from Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat.
You can get a ticket from Bangkok to Koh-Phangnan under 2000 THB.

This is real cheap, considering it consists of your flight, bus and ferry until you reach the island.

Advisory :
The flight crew DOES NOT speak English.

Just be on time as the announcement also is in Thai language and the airport at Bangkok is super huge(like a city in itself).

Where to stay in Koh-Phangnan?

While there are number of hostels and BNBs (bed and breakfast) but one should also have a look at resorts on this island. Those resorts are pretty amazing and are also not a pain for the wallet.

Like for instance we stayed at Scenery View Beach Resort. Rooms were as low as 1380 INR per night. I would strongly suggest this resort as the owner was very helpful and she helped us get two-wheeler on rent and also guided us with a map of the island.

Best part of the resort is that is its own private beach.
Relaxation.Bliss !

Need help Getting around?

The easiest, cheapest and most effective way to get around the island is renting a scooter. They are available for as low as 200THB per day. Just keep one thing in mind, don`t even put a scratch on the scooter. Most are brand new and they charge heavy extra prices if they see the scratch.

We had an accident in which the scooter got scratched. So we put a little Vaseline body lotion(that`s all we had) and returned it during night hours. Even then the owner inspected the scooter with a torch and then return our driving licensed.
We did not require the licence while riding since you rarely see any cops in Koh-Phangnan ;)

That`s all folks ! Hope this helps people who are looking for an off-beat trip on a budget.
Just feel free to contact us and we will plan out the best trip for you.
